Meet the Onboard Experts of American Cruise Lines

One of our favorite parts of the travel experience is learning more about the places and cultures we visit. What we often forget is that there is so much fascinating history and culture right here in the United States. American Cruise Lines allows guests to sail some unforgettable itineraries on the rivers of America, while enjoying enriching programs designed to bring these destinations to life.

On each of their cruise itineraries, American Cruise Lines carefully selects historians, naturalists, and entertainers to bring the local history, nature, and culture to life. Their engaging onboard programs not only enhance guided onshore excursions but also offer context to the passing scenery. Here is just a sample of what guests can experience on an American Cruise Lines journey.

What better place to enjoy Mark Twain’s adventures than a lounge aboard an authentic paddlewheeler, while cruising the Mighty Mississippi.  Mark Twain impressionist McAvoy Layne keeps guests entertained with the wit and wisdom of America’s most revered author. As the ghost of Samuel Clemens, he has been featured in the Biography Channel’s episode of Mark Twain, as well as in the Discovery Channel’s Cronkite Award winning documentary, “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”

Reggie, their resident wine expert, has been a wine educator for the past 15 years, teaching a variety of certification courses and traveling extensively to Europe teaching students who travel with her. On the Food & Wine and Culinary theme cruises, Reggie travels with guests to local wineries, distilleries, small artisanal producers of craft foods, and culinary institutes. During her onboard presentations she will offer her expertise on wine, regional cuisine, pairing, and more.

Patricia Perry describes her onboard programs as “edutainment,” meaning that while you are having fun, you are also learning. Her shows are thoroughly researched and presented with an eye on accuracy but without the dust one often finds in old history books. In period costume and with comic wit, she speaks on how real people lived in the past, what they ate and wore, how they made themselves beautiful, tried to keep healthy, and who and how they loved.

Katie earned a Master of Science Degree in Ecology from the University of California at Berkeley and spent most of her professional career working for the US Forest Service. She has traveled around the world twice, visiting many remote sites looking for rare and endangered plants and birds. During each cruise, Katie presents a series of evening discussions about our ports of call, as well as several well-researched talks pertaining to the area. Her lectures cover a variety of topics from local wildlife and ecology to early exploration and history.

These are just a few of the fascinating people who bring your cruise to life when you set sail with American Cruise Lines. Be sure to ask us about this wonderful cruise option when planning your next trip.
